After a long hiatus, I’m excited to say that Lonely Speck workshops are officially back!
There’s still nothing quite like standing under a dark sky with a small group of passionate photographers, chasing starlight in quiet places.
So I’m bringing back Lonely Speck Astrophotography Workshops. This is your chance to visit a beautiful dark sky location and shoot photos with me. I’ll be there to help you along the way.

Next month, I’ll be leading the first new Lonely Speck workshop in over five years. I’ve built it as an immersive, hands-on astrophotography class in California’s Alabama Hills, in the Eastern Sierra, one of my favorite night sky locations anywhere in the American West.
This 3-day experience will include classroom sessions, deep-dive editing sessions, and, of course, two long nights of shooting in the field in the Alabama Hills area. We’ll cover everything from simple night photography, planning to large-format astrophotography panoramas, time-lapse, and even, if we’re lucky, meteor shower shots. This workshop is scheduled just after the peak of the Perseid meteor shower to try to balance the best amount of moonless time at night, and closeness to the peak. More than anything, we’ll just spend time making images of the night sky in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
