List of Large Sensor Cameras with Built In Intervalometers

Timelapse photography complements night photography well since we’re typically dealing with long shutter speeds and using techniques that require lots of exposures, such as image stacking. The easiest way to make a timelapse is to buy an accessory intervalometer for your camera but I don’t always like carrying a bunch of gear around and an intervalometer is just an extra piece of equipment. So if possible, I prefer a camera that has the interval timer built-in. I’ve scoured the internet to find all the large sensor cameras that have built in intervalometers in their software / firmware. Here’s the list so far:

All of the cameras below feature a sensor that’s 4/3, APS-C or full-frame (or medium format in the case of the 645D/Z) so they should also be great for night photography, especially when paired with a fast wide angle lens. Some of them, however, are fixed lens cameras.

I’m trying to keep this list complete so if you know of any other cameras that include a built-in intervalometer, or if you see a mistake, please let me know in the comments section below!

  1. I know this post is a little old but you should add the new Canon 5D Mark IV to the list. It has a built in intervalometer (which I can’t wait to try ^_^)

  2. Hi Ian!

I was wondering if the Sony a3000 should be on this list. If not, is it due to the sensor size, or the lack of an intervalometer? How would the a3000 be for astroimaging if it was paired with a Rokinon 12mm or 8mm?

    Thank you!

  3. the basic canon 5d and 5d11 and 5d111 have not got an itervalomiter unles you download magic lantern not everyone wants to do that

  4. Thank you!! This info is very helpful for me. It is important function in self portrait fishing photography. You can add to list DP1 Merrill and DP2 Merrill.
I wonder how this feature works in a difrent of cameras.
I Have RICOH GR. When I use intervalometer with timer i focus only once before first pic.
When I press the shutter button camera focus every time before taking picture.

With sigma there is no option interval with timer and focus only once before taking 1st pic.

I still waiting for ful frame camera with intervalometer working with timer and focusing before every photo and fully side rotatable screen.
